CLAW 9: CLEVELAND LEATHER AWARENESS WEEKEND 2010
These leather boots are made for… more than just walkin’! Thursday, April 22nd through Sunday the 25th was The Ninth Annual Cleveland Leather Awareness Weekend (CLAW) in Cleveland, Ohio. The annual volunteer-run event– focused on leather awareness, education, and philanthropy (and FUN too!)– is a major leather gathering in the country, attracting hundreds of men and a few women from all over the U.S. and Canada. Everyone from leather newbies to national Titleholders attend. CLAW 8 raised $35,000 for GLBT and HIV/AIDS-related charities, along with another $35,000 at CLAW Nation parties thrown across the country. The jam-packed weekend features everything from vendor marts to skills workshops; art shows to live entertainment; silent auctions to kinky fundraising games… and, of course, official hot CLAW parties all over gay Cleveland. At the Saturday night Leather Family Dinner, everyone from the CLAW volunteers (There are many!) to Titleholders (Again, there are many!) are honored. (Jeffrey Payne, Mr. International Leather, was Special Guest Speaker this year.), while at Brunch the next afternoon, new honorees are inducted into The Leather Hall of Fame annually. This year’s inductees were The Satyrs MC, Tony DeBlase, and leather pioneers/life partners Frank Olson and Dan Morrison. One thing you WON’T find at this is a “Mr. CLAW” competition. Unlike other large leather events, there’s no contest. CLAW 10 will be at The Hilton Garden Inn of Cleveland and it promises to be the biggest and best CLAW yet. Start getting your gear ready!
